Synchron Stage Vienna Nominated for NAMM TEC Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement

0

Synchron Stage Vienna has been announced as a nominee for the 32nd Annual NAMM Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards in the category of Outstanding Creative Achievement. Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG) was enlisted by Vienna Symphonic Library to upgrade this historical building into a cutting-edge recording facility. The studio complex now provides enhanced acoustics and state-of-the art technology for recording film music and the full spectrum of orchestral and choral works. The NAMM TEC Awards are bestowed annually in celebration of the pro audio community by recognizing the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind today’s sound recordings, live performances, films, television, video games and other media.

Already in its first year, Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions chose Synchron Stage Vienna to record a whole slate of productions, including music for “Inferno”, starring Tom Hanks, the Netflix series “The Crown”, Volvo and Mercedes commercials, video games and many more undisclosed projects. Initial recordings at the facility were undertaken with a large orchestra conducted by famed orchestrator, Conrad Pope and mixed by legendary scoring engineer Dennis Sands, who admires the sound. “It’s certainly one of the best rooms in the world, there’s no question,” says Sands. Other artists who performed at Synchon Stage Vienna include Anna Netrebko, the Vienna Piano Trio, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The Vienna Symphonic Library, a leading developer of orchestral sample libraries and music production software, took over the building in 2013. VSL’s CEO Herb Tucmandl and Technical Director Bernd Mazagg served as the creative and technical masterminds for the project. After two years of planning, the historical facility was entirely renovated and equipped in collaboration with WSDG. Says Dirk Noy, Switzerland-based WSDG Partner/GM, “Synchron Stage is one of the largest recording studio complexes built in Europe in recent years,” and Technical Director Mazagg adds, “It sounds incredible and looks great.”
